My husband is not married to anyone else” – Funke Akindele clears the air

Nollywood screen goddess and one of the most highly rated Nigerian star actress, Funke Akindele knows she might have to set the records straight sooner or later. “My huband has never been married,” she insists in response to much of the hearsay about her marriage to Almaroof.
“I am the woman he got married to. I was married properly. Alot of negative comments came from sadists who want to run their mouths. So because I am a Youth Ambassador or Celebrity, I can’t have my life?” she asks rhetorically.
It is my life. If I do things because people want me to, I will end up unhappy. I do what I do because I want to be happy. I would still continue to teach morals and campaign against HIV/AIDS and enlighten the youths. It doesn’t make me bad; that is even if it is, because I can tell you authoritatively that my husband is not married to anyone else.
Yes, he has beautiful children, who are not mine now and we have a cordial relationship, which dates back to even before we got married. ‘So what if he has kids? Is that a disease? That is where my heart is! I had many non-biological children even before I got married. I take them as my own children, pay their bills and help them. I have always loved children. So now that God has given me these ones, what should I do?
Will people be happier if I had married someone who didn’t have children, seem so perfect, put on my make-p and fake smile on the red carpet and start weeping when I get home?’ She queries a deadpan ton.
And about my in-laws, they are very wonderful and supportive and my parents and siblings as well.

Our Feet Are Getting Bigger,Research Shows

Our Feet Are Getting Bigger,Research ShowsAccording to a new report by the National Shoe Retailers Association,Our shoes aren’t getting smaller, the average woman’s foot has grown by more than a size over the last three decades.
Increased nutrition for people in the western world (as has access to high-calorie junk food),have caused an increase in body sizes. It is something that is almost going global and not in the United States alone.
For example,at the beginning of the 20th century the average woman wore a size 3.5 or size 4 shoe. This increased to a 5.5 in the forties and remained this way till the 60s. By the 1970s, the average female foot was a 7.5 and now, forty years later, the most common foot size for the American female is somewhere between an 8 ½ and a 9.
Women are yet to arrive at this realization and still buy smaller shoe sizes out of embarrassment, which can result in foot pain and injuries.
Nevertheless, people will have to learn how to live with the bodies they were born with; few women, we’d imagine, would want to go back to traditions like the excruciatingly painful foot binding of imperial China

They’re ecstatic and over the moon!” – Adele ‘gives birth to a baby boy’

Adele has reportedly given birth to a baby boy.  New reports claim that the 24-year-old singer and partner Simon Konecki welcomed their child on Friday night. She is said to be ‘ecstatic’ by the baby’s arrival.
A source is quoted as saying: ‘Adele and Simon are ecstatic at their new arrival.  ’She was over the moon that they were expecting their first child together.’
Her spokesman said of Friday night’s reported birth: ‘We are not releasing a statement at this time. No comment.’
Adele announced her pregnancy back in June, writing on her official blog: ‘I’m delighted to announce that Simon and I are expecting our first child together.
‘I wanted you to hear the news direct from me, obviously we’re over the moon and very excited but please respect our privacy at this precious time. Yours always, Adele xx’
Adele and Simon started dating last summer and moved in together earlier this year. Simon also has a five-year-old daughter with his ex-wife Clary Fisher.
She has said of Simon in the past: ‘He looks after me. I don’t think I’d have got through the recovery from surgery if not for him.’

I Want a Man Who Will Watch My Back - Nse Ikpe-Etim

INTERVIEW
Nse Ikpe — Etim is one of the most sought-after actresses in Nollywood at the moment. Recently, she starred in the latest flick, The Meeting, produced by Rita Dominic which premiered yesterday in Lagos. In this interview, she shares her fantasies, acting career and the challenges of the industry among other issues. Enjoy!!!
What is the secret behind your wonderful performances on screen?
Well, you can see the smile on my face. It is really a very big honour for my name to be mentioned as a nice actress. I own the gratitude to Almighty God who is using my directors to bring out the best in me. It takes a highly talented director to bring out the best in an actor/actress. I strongly believe that people are still doing their work as expected of them.
How do you feel when they appreciate your performances?
(Laughs) I feel so honoured. It is not easy for one to be appreciated for doing what I'm doing on screen. It means you did something good.
What is it that you are doing right when you are on set with these well-established actors/ actresses?
You know I used to say that people should never rest on their oars. If a woman hears that she cooks well, she should not relax because she has been praised that she cooks well. What I am saying in essence is that, we learn every day. Is not that people cannot do something right, but they need to be empowered. The best of me is yet to be seen.
What is the difference between you and other actresses?
I don't know what to say, and I cannot run away from the fact that God has been on my side. Sometimes, I sit down and look at what I have done in the past, and where I have gone wrong. So I try every day to improve. I also work on my co characters in other to make something different. Well, everybody is different Even if they are living the same life.
No matter what, even when they are born of the same mother, one thing will always make the difference in the person. I believe so much that for every role you play in a movie, you must find one little thing that you connects. Like in The Meeting , you see how Bolarenwa connected. They really brought out the funny part of me in my character as Bolarenwa in The Meeting.
What do you say about Bolarenwa in The Meeting?
In movies, there are romantic comedy, there are comedy but this one, The Meeting , is a satirical comedy. Now, there is no character in the movie that one cannot identify with. Because, there is always a Makinde in someone's office. There is always an Ijora, that girl that walks around the office pretending as if she does not know anything but she knows what she wants. There is always a Bolarenwa in every office.
There is also a Clara Ikemba the receptionist that will neither block or mare your life. There is also a gateman, that person that opens the gate at every sound of horn at the gate. You see, that the characters connected.
Talking about characters like, Makinde and Ijora, they are upcoming actors, has your perception about them changed after acting with them?
I will be very honest with you, I saw Ijora, different from the role he plays in Tinsel. And he played the lawyer and I saw he plays a different funny man here. He walked in a funny way, he reacted in a funny way then I was surprised, I said where did you learn all these things from? I was pleased with the way he acted and I said yes, our industry needs this. As a new Nollywood, we need new more entrants into the industry than we have already. I know we have talent here in Nigeria.
People are highly talented in this country to be honest. But the problem is, do they have the platform to be recognized? I am very happy for their talents. I was given a chance in Reloaded . I was supported by all the elites in the industry and I came out with that movie. In that movie, you find out that I acted amidst established actors/actresses . The movie was amazing.
If Makinde never had the platform to perform in Tinsel like other upcoming actors, do you think he would have impressed you?
One thing I strongly believe is that, you can never lock up talent no matter what. Talent will surely rise above everything. What now makes it shine is the attitude. But you can never lock up talent. Even if he has never acted before, there would have been another avenue for him to perform.
As for Linda, she is willing to learn. She does not think that she knows it all. I am actually more happy than they are for what they have. So, I know what it is like. When it comes to acting, I was burning up. And then, there on the stage, you will have the support of the cast, the director and the producer, you find out that the sky is your limit.
How soon do you intend to bounce into TV programmes since that is what most people prefer these days?
May be one day, you will get to see more of me; you will get to see more Nse. I strongly believe that when the time comes, you will see me there.
What are your thoughts about the movie?
In the movie, you know in school, there are these kind of girls, who are local but feel they know everything. They have acquired a degree, but still local. They have a sense of pride in them because, they feel they have got something. They claim they are very wise but they do not know anything that was exactly the role Mary played. So when she was exposed, she went out of hands.
Can you recall in any movie were what you intended to act was not what you acted?
I can't really recall now but I remember there was a scene in reloaded where FEMI, walked into the living room with a girl and my character dropped for like a second or two. People outside might not notice it, but I did. When I was watching the movie, I was asking myself, why did I dropped? So, these are the kind of things am working against. You know sometimes, we all have to learn how to control our emotions.
Which of the movies do you think was extremely challenging?
Well, each movie has its challenges, but the most challenging is the one I shoot recently in Abuja, it is called, BROKEN. The movie actually broke me. The film made me see the strength of a woman from different point of view. Having a family, yet not having one. The movie was something else. There was a meeting point in that movie.
Meanwhile, I always give myself sometime to rest. I do not jump from one stage to the other. If I have a script, I dedicate everything I have and when I am done, I will give myself some rest.
Do you have the intention of going into some other branches of art?
As I always say, I am comfortable with where I am in acting I want it that way. For now, I am in love with my work. In terms of loving the people I am working with like the directors, producers and others. I love putting a smile on people's faces. We need to remind people that things have happened and it is only acting that reveals that. It is a concept reminder.
How do you react to the ALUU-UNIPORT killing?
We should be made to know the value of life in this country. In this country, as far as it didn't concern us, we are not bordered. We have reduced ourselves to nothing that we do not appreciate the value of life. I was asking myself if it were to be my brother, how would I have felt? I ask, was gun pointed at anybody and they said no. So, why did they kill those guys?
When you are stressed up, what calms you?
Cooking calms me more. I like cooking so much. If I can't cook, I read because, I think that there is no knowledge that is a waste and reading gives knowledge. If you read constantly, you can never lack.
What I am praying for is that the generation after me will train their children well on how to develop reading habit. That is why sometimes when I speak, people will be asking themselves, where did this person come from? I want to tell them that it is what I learnt from my parents through constant reading. Sometimes, I hang out with my friends then I mingle my fears and foes with my friends. I can also decide to be alone. I will just lie on the bed for something and will not get up.
What would make someone earn your friendship?
Honestly, for you to be able to be my friend, it means we must not judge each other. Even if you offend me, I will understand the reason from your own point of view because, you explained to me. Sometimes, I don't see you all the time but we are very close. Some people will take offense and the friendship will end.
I also have friends I don't see all the time, the day we see, we greet. So, even if when somebody tells you that I have not seen you for a long time, just have it in mind that she is busy. I can't judge. If there is anything you feel I didn't do right, don't judge, call me and ask me why did you do a thing like this and I will explain it in the context that I did it. That is what we own ourselves. I can laugh with everybody at the same time; it is not all the time that I laugh.
What are the things you want in your man?
I have answered this question over and over again but I think I have to streamline it into one word, I want a man I can feel safe with. It is not about money or whatever, somebody you can look back at and feel safe. He will watch your back and you watch his. Not somebody who doesn't respect your feelings and want you to respect his. It doesn't work like that.

Why materials arrive late on election days – INEC Commissioner

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Cross River state, Mike Igini on Saturday blamed the lack of trust for the perpetual delay of electoral materials in all the nation’s election.
Speaking on the late arrival of electoral materials in the on-going Ondo governorship election, Mr Igini, who was a guest on Channels Television’s weekend show, Sunrise, said that the lack of trust of electoral officers is the main reason why electoral materials are always delayed before they are deplored to the various polling booths.

According to the INEC official, “a lot of people that should be in prison in public offices in Nigeria and they are also aspiring to make their way into public offices.”

“The electoral materials for this Ondo election had arrived Akure over a week ago but because there is no trust for the electoral officers, we have to ensure that adequate security is provided before the materials move.”

“We have to do this because if we leave the officials alone, we don’t know what they might do with the materials. They might probably take it to their homes” he alleged.

He likened this experience to a similar one during the last elections in Cross-River state, where he stated that the election materials were ready to be deployed but the delay in arrival of police officers that will accompany the materials and the electoral officers led to the late arrival at polling booths.”

This he explains is why “trust is a major issue we have to work on in this country.”

Mr Igini also added that about 9,230 ad-hoc staff was recruited for the governorship election in Ondo state because the electoral commission has just about 300 staff in the state..

He however noted that the deployment of 7,000 officers of the Nigerian Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) and 11,000 police and military officers is a good sign that the election will be free of violence and other security challenges as this is a good enough guarantee for a good election exercise.

Court Discharges Ex-bank Chief Of N10.2 Million-theft Charge

JUSTICE Lateefat Okunnu of a Lagos State High Court, Ikeja yesterday discharged and acquitted the former deputy Managing Director of Intercontinental Trust Securities, Limited, Yaqoub Okponobi, of an alleged N10.2 million theft charge preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The stockbroker was arraigned on August 12, 2011 on a three-count charge of stealing the sum of N10.2 million from his employers Intercontinental Securities, a subsidiary of the defunct Intercontinental Bank Plc, a charge to which he pleaded not guilty.
In the charge, the prosecuting counsel, Mr. Cosmas Ogwu, had alleged that the defendant had between February and April 2008, purchased shares worth N10.2 million with his employer’s money and transferred them to his own company.
Ogwu had claimed that Okponobi used his position to transfer the shares to his own company, Vanguard Capital Nominees, and directed that the money should be debited from his employers account.
But in her judgment, Okunnu held that the prosecution had failed to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt.
According to the judge, Okponobi had testified before the court that he had erroneously purchased the shares in the name of his own company and had paid for them.
The Judge dismissed the allegation that the defendant had directed Equity Capital Solutions Ltd. to debit the account of Intercontinental Trustees.
She said:  “It is my findings that the shares were bought albeit erroneously by Vanguard Capital Nominees and were paid for by its holding company through the issuance of a N5.6 million cheque to Equity Capital Solutions Ltd., on July 7, 2008.
It is my finding that Equity Capital Solutions Ltd. acted on its own in making the wrong posting.
“The defendant had testified that he was on vacation when the debit was made and that he immediately ordered its reversal when it was drawn to his attention”. The court added.
Justice Okunnu in the judgment held that the prosecution witnesses in their testimonies failed to link Okponobi with the alleged crime, adding that there was a clear paucity of evidence to warrant a conviction.
“I find the defendant as he had pleaded from the onset not guilty of the offences he was charged and hereby dismissed the case of the prosecution.
“The prosecution had failed woefully to prove the case and the defendant is hereby discharged and acquitted,” Okunnu said.

Air Marshal Umar Retires From Air Force

FORMER Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Mohammed Dikko Umar formally retired from the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Friday in a flying out ceremony in Abuja, saying that Nigeria needs to overcome the present security challenges.
In his valedictory address to officers and men of the Service at the Air Force Base, Abuja, Air Marshal Umar also advocated more funding to enable the NAF respond rapidly to any conflict, dominate any situation and optimize day to day operation in any given situation.
Umar said, “a versatile and multi-faceted instrument”, can be deployed in defence against aggression, promoting security and supporting people.
He noted that, “With information superiority, the NAF will ultimately provide dominant maneuver, precise engagement and full dimension protection in conjunction with other security agencies. By moving faster and more numbly than the adversary, dominant maneuver will allow a reorganized NAF to control the depth and breadth of the battle space and force an adversary to react from a disadvantage position or even quit.”
Air Marshal Umar emphasized that the roadmap for improved capacity building efficiency and effectiveness for the Air Force can be achieved, if there is need for improved government budgetary appropriation.
He therefore  appealed to the Federal Government and the members of the National assembly to continue to assist, support and ensure increased funding for the NAF as a high tech driven component of the armed forces.
He was appointed the 17th Chief of Air Staff on September 8, 2010 and retired from the Air Force on October 4 after 35 years of service to the nation.

Ritual Pot Found In PHCN Office

OFFICIALS of the PHCN Ilorin yesterday resumed to their Zango branch office only to discover a strange earthen pot by the gate suspected to be an object of rituals.
The black pot, which was discovered by the workers of the PHCN at about 8.00 am, consisting of morsel of solid pap (eko), palm oil, snail, feathers among other ritual items.
The workers, who were initially shocked by the development and gathered in groups discussing in hush tones. later summoned up the courage to stay by their duties posts.
It is recalled that the PHCN customers in most parts of the country have been complaining of crazy bills being issued by the power company in past months, while there is ongoing move to put power distribution in the private operations of Nigerian companies.
The Service Manager of Kulende Service Unit, Ilorin, Mr. Ibrahim Popoola Abubakar, described the display of the ritual as a rude shock as it remained unprecedented in the history of the corporation.
Abubakar said that the development was not unconnected with the long-time feud and cold war between the company and its customers at Sabo Oke community, Ilorin, adding that the police command in the state had already intervened on the matter.
The people of Sabo Oke community had been at war with the PHCN staff in the unit over alleged high power bills being issued by the company, just as the community had disallowed the PHCN staff from entering the community to disconnect payment defaulters in the area.
“We met with the Kwara state commissioner of police on Thursday with the people of Sabo Oke on the issue of PHCN defaulters and we are supposed to meet with the DPO of the ‘A’ Division of police in the state today (Friday). It is so surprising to be confronted with this funny drama in the form of ritual sacrifice this morning.
“And you can imagine that the people behind this ugly act consist of Muslims and Christians and the sacrifice is being put in the premises where we also have offices of other religious bodies. It is so sad”, he said.
On what he intended to do with the substance, the PHCN boss said the material would be left there, adding that he was not competent to take action on behalf of the PHCN.
Reacting to the development, one of the stakeholders in Sabo Oke community, Mallam Abubakar, denied the allegation, saying the allegation is unfounded. “Did anyone arrest a member of Sabo Oke area putting the substance there? People should fear God,” he said.

Terry Remains Chelsea Captain, Gets ‘Record’ Fine, Chairman Says

John Terry has been handed a club record fine by Chelsea but will remain the Premier League team’s captain, Chairman Bruce Buck said.
The soccer club acted after Terry, 31, was suspended for four matches and fined 220,000 pounds ($352,000) by England’s Football Association for racially abusing Anton Ferdinand of Queens Park Rangers during a game last October. The former England captain this week decided not to appeal the sanctions and the club followed up by taking action of its own.
“John will continue to be captain of the club,” Buck said in comments to Talksport radio posted on Chelsea’s website today. “We are not going to suspend him for any additional matches to the four the FA have suspended him for, but we have taken disciplinary action we think is firm and appropriate.”
Neither Buck nor Chief Executive Officer Ron Gourlay disclosed the fine amount in their radio interview.
“We have come on John very heavily,” Gourlay said. “John let himself down and the club down and the words were inappropriate. We feel that we have dealt with this.”
Terry was acquitted by a London court in a criminal case over the incident in July. The FA’s punishment came after a four-day hearing last month.
Gourlay said Terry’s long service to Chelsea was taken into account in the club’s penalty.
“John has played over 550 times for the football club and he has captained the side over 400 times and led the club tremendously well through these games, so we believe it was a lapse in judgment and was out of character,” he said. “But he did fall below the high standards we expect.”
Buck also apologized to Ferdinand’s family, something Terry didn’t do in a statement two days ago in which he said he would not appeal the FA’s ban and fine.
“We understand what they have gone through and Chelsea Football Club would like to apologize to them,” Buck said. “It has been a very difficult year for them. They haven’t done anything wrong and they shouldn’t be suffering.”
Terry began his suspension today as Chelsea came from behind to win 4-2 at Tottenham.

Jonathan Replaces Ondo State Police With Military, Raising Fears of Election Rigging

President Goodluck Jonathan is reportedly behind the apparent militarization of upcoming elections in Ondo State, having replaced local police with soldiers, a source in the police told SaharaReporters today.

The source claimed that in the last two hours, the National Security Adviser, Lt. Col. Sambo Dasuki and the Minister of State for Defence, Erelu Olusola Obadan have taken control of the state and flooded it with soldiers.

An observer in Akure confirmed to SaharaReporters that there is an unusually high number of checkpoints mounted by soldiers in the state but stated the soldiers were "civil".

The dramatic deployment of soldiers has raised serious concerns by candidates in tomorrow’s polls that the elections will be rigged.

Interestingly, Mr. Jonathan does not support his party's candidate, Olusola Oke but has reportedly poured funds into the candidacy of the Labour Party candidate and incumbent Governor, Olusegun Mimiko.

Competition is fierce for the governorship of Ondo State considering the region’s extreme oil-wealth.

That's about N1.7 million. He told NET in an exclusive interview that it took him about 7 months to make the dress.

Meanwhile, my peeps spotted Mrs Chikwe yesterday at Reeds Club for Rotimi Domingo's pre-wedding party and they swear she's preggers. They said her tummy now has a slight bulge and she looked like she's just finishing her first trimester. If this is true, you read it here first. If it's not true...well, you never read it here

Genevieve, Tiwa Savage, Don Jazzy, Dr Sid visit flood victims in Delta State

On October 15th and 16th 2012,  Ms. Genevieve Nnaji, and the MAVIN Crew, Don Jazzy, Dr. Sid, and Tiwa Savage organized relief supplies and personally visited the refugee camps located in Asaba, Delta State in order to show both physical and moral support to the displaced victims.

The flood, currently ravaging through the nation has displaced over 100,000 families, leaving a lot of people homeless and without any business to keep them afloat. Our Nigerian stars went down to distribute relief supplies, as well as utilize their celebrity influence and raise more awareness to this ongoing natural disaster.

The Reach Out Initiative, a program kick-started by the stars themselves will be utilized to get a lot more people involved, both within and outside the country in donating help, either through relief supplies or financial donations.

Genevieve: “This is just the beginning, as our country has never experienced anything like this. The government is doing the best they can, but we as citizens, can also partake in helping the situation in the best way we can. The plan is to get more people involved, and visit more relief camps in the affected states.”
