Lindsay Lohan's Bank Accounts Seized by IRS to Pay Her Debt

Lindsay Lohan

List of Lindsay Lohan's problems keep getting longer. As if facing criminal charges is not enough, the on-screen daughter of Meryl Streep in "A Prairie Home Companion" now has an emergency financial situation. According to TMZ, IRS has seized all of her bank accounts.

LiLo reportedly owes the IRS $233,904 in unpaid federal taxes for year 2009 and 2011. She was allegedly given lenient time to settle her debt, but the IRS' patience was wearing thin when she still hadn't paid it despite buzzing news that she earned around $2 million this year alone.

Her big paycheck most likely came from her movie projects that included her portrayal as Hollywood legend Elizabeth Taylor in "Liz & Dick". Her next big screen project include a cameo with Charlie Sheen in "Scary Movie 5" and her role in erotic thriller "The Canyons".

Charlie, who plays her on-screen partner in the upcoming "Scary Movie" installment, has generously given the "Mean Girls" star $100,000 to help her with her 2009 tax problem, but the money barely covered the debt since LiLo reportedly also has unpaid taxes for year 2011.

Just earlier, LiLo was rumored getting stressed out by her countless problems, especially her impending court dates one of which is for third degree misdemeanor assault charge stemming from a nightclub catfight with another female. She turned to alcohol to distract her worried mind.

LiLo has also been slapped with misdemeanors for resisting, obstructing, or delaying an officer in the course of their duties by giving false information to an officer who investigated a car accident involving her last summer. She's also cited for reckless driving.

Her friends thought the only way she could avoid jail was by getting into rehab, but she dismissed it. One of her concerned buddies is her assistant Gavin Doyle. "@lindsaylohan after bailing you out last night I HOPE and PRAY you get the help you so desperately need," he tweeted after getting her out of jail following the club brawl.

Breaking news: Two Dead as another Bomb Blast hits Kano Monday morning !

At least two people have been feared dead when an explosion rocked Plaza junction, by Kanti Kori in Kano during the morning rush hour on Monday.
According to reports the two people affected are a security personnel and a passerby. JTF officials have however cordoned off the area while investigation into the attack has commenced.
Meanwhile, spokesman of the JTF in the city, Captain Ikediche Iweha confirmed the incident to Vanguard on the telephone, adding that he will volunteer details as soon as they are available. In his words “our men are already at the scene, and I hope to feed you with details as soon as we have them.”
It will soon be a year since that devastating bomb attack on St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Niger State. Not only has the government been unable to prove that they have the security situation in the country under control, they seem to have no clue whatsoever as to how it can be dealt with.

Government Secretly Holds Talks with Boko Haram

The Federal Government and fundamentalist Islamic sect, Boko Haram, finally held a secret meeting in Senegal a few weeks ago in a bid to end the terrorism onslaught against the country, SUNDAY PUNCH authoritatively reports.

The governments of Mali and Senegal played significant roles in the peace talks with officials of the two West African countries serving as mediators during the negotiations, our correspondent learnt.

Mali and Senegal have majority Muslim populations and also have mainstream Islamic groups with strong ties to religious groups in Northern Nigeria.

It was gathered that the Federal Government team to the meeting was led by the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godsday Orubebe. Orubebe is one of President Goodluck Jonathan’s closest associates. The newspaper also gathered that some senior Boko Haram commanders stood in for the sect.

A very reliable source in government, who pleaded not to be named because of the sensitive nature of the matter, disclosed that the leaders of the sect insisted that a ceasefire was only possible if their terms were met.

Pressed for more details, the source said the terms were “what the sect has always demanded.”

The terms that Boko Haram has been reported to have given government for a ceasefire include, the release of their detained members, the payment of compensation and the rebuilding of their houses and mosques demolished by government.

The source said the talks were successful but could not be sustained because hawks in the military advised President Goodluck Jonathan against accepting the terms.

According to him, the military advised the President not to give in to the demands of the sect with a promise that they would deal with the Boko Haram challenge.

Confirming the meeting in Senegal, the Convener of Coalition of Northern Politicians, Academics, Professionals and Businessmen, Dr. Junaid Mohammed, accused President Goodluck Jonathan of double standards.

Mohammed said the President could not claim that the sect was faceless because the Federal Government had interacted with some of them.

Mohammed said, “Yes, it is true. The minister travelled to Senegal where, on prior arrangement with Senegalese and Malian secret services, met some of the Boko Haram leaders."

Mohammed also condemned the price placed on the heads of leaders of the Boko Haram sect. He said the military’s action was aimed at frustrating the negotiations. “After meeting with these people, you now say you are putting money on their heads. It is an act of bad faith. The mere fact that there was some kind of meeting clearly shows that what the military did was an act of bad faith."

Mark Zuckerberg made $3.5 billion last month (November)

Yes, you heard right. $3.5 billion in just one month. Facebook's stock shot up from $21.08 a share on the first day of trading in November to $28 a share at the end of the day Friday, its highest price since July. Zuckerberg, who owns about 504 million shares of Facebook stock, gained about $3.48 billion as a result...

When Facebook first went public at $38 a share in May, Zuckerberg’s shares were worth $19.1 billion. In the following months, the stock dropped to less than half that IPO price to $17.55 in late August, pushing Zuckerberg’s net worth down to $8.84 billion.

Since then, Facebook’s stock has recovered in fits and starts and so has Zuckerberg’s wealth. November proved to be by far the most robust growth month for the stock to date, thanks to two big factors. First, the company had a strong earnings report in late October, which showed that Facebook was making progress in monetizing mobile. Secondly, the second and largest lockup period for stocks held by employees finally expired in the middle of November, which was something investors had been dreading for months and arguably held down the stock price.

As of last Friday, Zuckerberg’s net worth was $14.1 billion and will likely only continue to grow in December.

Doctors in PH hospital refuse to treat pregnant woman over N20K

A pregnant Nigerian lady has died because doctors in Port Harcourt insisted the husband must pay N20,000, less than $150, before she was treated. And her family members are still in shock about her death, such that they are not even thinking of burying her for now.

The 34 year old woman, Ijeoma Umumadumere, nee Ahamefule, (pictured above) was rushed in the morning of 25 November to Garrison Clinic in Port Harcourt, when she complained of a sudden stomach pain and headache, while cooking. Her husband rushed her to the clinic on Udom street in the oil rich city. It was between 9-10 a.m. And she was five-months pregnant.

But doctors and nurses would not attend to the pregnant woman because the husband only had N5,000 on him, instead of the N20,000 being demanded, as a precondition for treatment. Even the N5,000 the man had on him had been used to offset registration and other costs.

Her brother, based in Austria could not understand why doctors in a Nigerian hospital could have so callously and uncaringly treated the woman, pregnant with her first child. As he put it:
“Her husband begged the doctor and the nurses to attend to her since they had collected about N5, 000 he had in his pocket in the name of registration and other little things while he would go home and bring money. He had also told them that because of the nature of the emergency and the way his wife had been shouting while on the ground that his mind had only been pre-occupied with the thoughts of rushing her to any nearby hospital and had not thought of money or any other thing as he had even forgotten to put on shoes, but all his pleading and explanations to the doctor and the nurses had fallen onto deaf ears. With her pains increasing and death knocking and the doctor and the nurses refusing to understand, there was no way he could have left her there unattended, to go home and bring money. He took her and headed to another hospital, but unfortunately my sister did not make it as the damage had already been done before the doctors in that second hospital could do something reasonable to save her life.”

“What a country, what a failure and what a loss! This is a sad story of the sorry state of the Nigerian health policy, how Nigerians are heartlessly and carelessly neglected because of money by doctors and nurses to die in hospitals, and how I lost my sister to a failed system,”wrote Uzoma Ahamefule, based in Austria.

Many hospitals in Nigeria, both private and public, are in the habit of asking for pre-payment from patients, even when the case is an emergency.

Kenyan celebs nude photos posted on Facebook

Facebook has done it again. This time round there is a page with over 15,000 followers that boasts of nude and semi-nude photos purportedly from East African region. The page dubbed East Africa’s Baddest and Rudest B*tches hasposted photos of females half dressed or in revealing attire and nude photos as well.
It has also lifted photos of other Kenyan female celebrities – probably from google images – and posted on the page. They are Big Brother Housemate and actress Millicent Mugadi, rapper Stella Mwangi a.k.a STL and OgopaletMarya. Millicent told Word Is, “My cousin who lives in Australia called me to tell me that my photo has been posted on the page. My problem is that they have placed my photos next to nude ones, which makes it look like I took nude photos.
“I have reported the page to Facebook all week, asking them to pull it down. I have even asked my friends to do the same but, two weeks later, it is still online.” Millicent just jetted in this week from Ghana after attending an event organised by fellow Big Brother Amplified housemate Confidence Haugen. She was also in Nigeria fro a series of shows. Of her trip to Nigeria she said that her dealings are “pending” because “the country is preparing for elections and nothing much is happening till after.”

Nigeria’s Yahoo Yahoo Image

Nigeria’s Yahoo Yahoo image is killing her economy. Things are spiraling out of control and sociological wreckage is being wrought. It has often been said that Nigerians are not loyal to their country and that they badmouth their nation.
With this premise, the Department of National Orientation has run programmes to inculcate patriotism in citizens and direct the youths. The results are not empirical.

Nigeria has a very bad image abroad.
When a nation has a bad reputation, there will be collateral damage and the first casualty is patriotism. Because a bad national image casts a dark halo on the citizens, they will not want to identify with their country. The image subtracts from their intrinsic worth. They are thus forced to rely on their personal equity in different situations and they soon begin to question the value of their country to them.

Our national identity cannot augment our valuation as Nigerians because of the negative reputation of our fatherland. This is because our primary output as a nation is apparently advance fee fraud, not oil; our systems and institutions are deemed malfunctioning and corrupt. Our passport is thus a liability at customs checkpoints and the innocent are banded with criminals.

This generalisation takes a toll on patriotic sentiments. Citizens don’t idolise a nation that subtracts from their worth, or shuts the door of opportunity against them, or makes them a pariah at international borders. And when a Nigerian succeeds, he feels he did it by himself and despite his country. Thus, he owes his nation no allegiance.

Are we by this article justifying lack of patriotism? Of course not! Nigeria suffers from four image afflictions (in my line of work we call them ‘brand eroders’). They are corruption, online credit card fraud (cybercrime), fundamentalist terrorism and kidnapping. These constitute the ordinance against the country.

The four can be broadly categorised into two classes — the violent class and the economic class. Kidnapping and fundamentalist terrorism belong to the violent class. They tend to play grandly on the national stage; but cyber crime is the most democratised of all. It is a huge retail enterprise, precisely because the barrier to entry is low.
A cyber criminal can run his operations entirely from a business centre. Anyone with a modem and a computer, or smartphone can launch into business. And it has gone industrial. There are now cybercrime factories — rows and rows of young men and women in huge spaces, dedicated to online criminal pursuit on computer notebooks.

The damage to the nation has been incalculable. The problem with cybercrime is that while other crimes are domiciled within Nigerian borders, cybercrime is a global phenomenon. We are systematically being shut out of the global economic system because of the activities of these aberrant cyberpreneurs. Today, Nigeria is not listed on the drop down menu of Paypal, the global online payment platform. Neither can we shop on Macy’s, Target, J.C. Penney and Marks & Spencer, to name a few. We can’t even buy antivirus software for our computers. Kaspersky shut us out. We are suffering from economic blockade, not unlike Iran; it’s just that ours is the market-driven variety. If truth be told, a 419er is an economic terrorist. He is waging an economic war against his country.

Our young men and women cannot access cheap finance through credit cards for their business start-ups. Even our debit cards are not accepted by international merchants! Once the transaction originates from Nigeria, a virtual steel door clamps down. Those who take the risk of online transactions from Nigeria put us through such strenuous processes it defeats the very purpose of online purchase. And our internet transactions are being routed through South Africa, with the attendant consequences on national sovereignty.

The elites have found a way round the credit card blockade. They simply travel abroad and use a foreign merchant card. They take care of themselves, but how myopic!

For one, the youths will become more desperate and take ever more unwholesome routes in pursuit of opportunities; our negative image is thus reinforced by an army of disenfranchised youths. Two, they will hate those that are privileged and their sense of rage will morph into other criminal activities against the privileged. Three, they will lose faith in the maternal instincts of the nation, after all, the nation is not helping them. Four, as those who succeed by devious means flaunt their ill-gotten wealth and invariably take up the political positions they bought with their loot, a signal is sent into the generational pool that ‘making it’ through criminal device is the way to go. Five, the youths will become a dangerous arsenal in the hands of the wrong commander-in-chief. When you extinguish hope, there is nothing left. Six, crime becomes normative, expected and required. It becomes an affirmation of basic humanity.

What should be done? How can we redeem our image and remedy the situation?

We need a four-pronged strategy: eliminate, repair, discourage, prevent.

We must eliminate cybercrime factories. Government must erect an equivalent anti-cybercrime factory full of hackers, trackers and servers to fight online criminal pursuit. It is a national security risk. And by the way, setting up this factory will provide employment to many of our computer science graduates. If we are serious, we should see a major drop in cybercrime within nine months.

We must also activate a discouragement strategy. First we must pass the cybercrime bill before our legislators. We must prosecute criminals under the law and make an example of cyber criminals. With the passage of the law, we signal to the international community that we are serious about curtailing cybercrime.

Our repair strategy dictates that we mend our relationship with the international merchant community. We need to undertake economic diplomacy. The amount Nigerians spend abroad annually gives us economic clout. It can be leveraged.

But prevention is always cheaper than cure. We need to re-orientate our youths and create opportunities for them.

In addition, our school curricula must reflect our realities. We need to teach our kids to create jobs rather than waiting for jobs.

Religious organisations have a role to play too. Government must partner with them.

And parents have a role to play too. As do our teachers. We must be worthy examples to our children.

Society is dynamic. We will never reach a point in which cybercrime is non-existent. The image of nations is not defined by the absence of negatives. It is determined by the positive exertions of its government and citizens.

Governor Okorocha’s ADC beats policeman to coma

The Aide-de-Camp to the Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha, Mr. Omo Gabriel, and two other police officers on Saturday, allegedly beat up a policeman attached the state government house for delaying in opening the gate for the governor’s convoy.
The incident, which occurred around 12:30am, when the governor returned from his wife’s birthday party, left the victim unconscious.
The mobile policeman, Corporal Itere Ewedor, was said to have been on duty at the security post when the governor’s convoy drove in.

Efforts to speak to Ewedor on Saturday were not successful as he was said to be resting but his friend, Mr. David Edhie, confirmed the incident.
He told SUNDAY PUNCH that after hearing the hooting of the horn from the governor’s convoy, the policeman opened the gate only for the ADC, a superintendent of police, and two other senior police officers to descend on him.
He said, “When the governor’s convoy got to the gate, the men of the civil defence corps and members of the Imo orientation corps, who were supposed to open the gate, were not around. So, there was a delay. Then my friend went to open the gate.
“When the convoy drove in, the ADC and some other police officers came down and asked him why he delayed. They wanted to collect his gun, but he refused. So, they started beating him. They beat him until he became unconscious, with bruises all over his face and parts of his body.”
Edhie added that the ADC took Ewedor, in his unconscious state, to Shell Camp Police Station and requested that he be detained.
He said, “The police officers at the station refused. They said they could not detain someone that was dying. Then Gabriel made arrangements for Ewedor to be taken to the Federal Medical Centre Owerri, where he was admitted. After sometime, he regained consciousness.”
SUNDAY PUNCH learnt that Ewedor, was discharged from the hospital around 5pm on Saturday.
Edhie said the ADC had made frantic efforts to get Ewedor discharged from the hospital, because sympathisers, including journalists, were visiting the the place.
When contacted, the state Commissioner for Information and Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, Mr. Chinedu Offor, refuted the report.
He said, “The ADC to Governor Okorocha is a true professional, there is no way he could have descended so low to physically assault somebody. In order not to scare people away, we use men of the civil defence corps at the gate. We don’t use policemen at the gates of the government house. So, if anybody says a policeman was beaten up for refusing to open the gate, it is false. I was at the government house around 12:30am. Such a thing never happened.”

Ojukwu's Will is Fraudulent, Says Disinherited First Son

Emeka, first son of late Biafran leader Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Saturday alleged that the will presented by Barr. Onyekwelu on Friday is fraudulent, saying the lawyer is a private counsel to Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu and not that of his late father.

Ojukwu claimed he has a copy of the original will written by his father and not what he called the "fraud" presented to them as Ojukwu's will.
Speaking at his country home in Nnewi, Anambra State, the late Igbo leader's son maintained that his late father's will was altered in favour of his step mother.

His words: “There have been rumours up to yesterday that there is an attempt to read the will and that they intend to make changes in the original will. Well, I have not seen the will that they read.
“Now there are issues that come to mind. Why were there no members of Ojukwu family when the will was read? They were not invited and they were not told.
“She was here last Sunday when we removed the mourning cloth and since she knows that the will would be read she would have invited us or even put us on notice.
“Now the lawyer that is supposedly doing all this things is not our father’s lawyer. Mr Onyekwelu is not a lawyer that is known to the family as Ezeigbo’s lawyer. Remember when Ezeigbo was sick the same lawyer went to the press to claim that Ezeigbo was recuperating and that was not true.
"It is still the same lawyer that claimed to have custody of the will. And I told everybody that it was not true and that since my father was flown to England he never lifted an arm or spoken a word until his death finally.
“How can the lawyer claim that he is Ezeigbo's lawyer when he had already taken sides with Bianca and doing the woman’s biddings and why would the will be read in Enugu instead of in Anambra State? You can see all elements of suspicion in the matter."
Ojukwu insisted that the family members have the original copy of Ojukwu’s will and know that what was read was a contradiction.
“We have the original copy of the will and we know where it is, even if you want to make some changes in the will it should be done before the beneficiaries and seeking their consent. Furthermore, when a will is amended without the presence of the people involved but only the presence of the person who would ultimately benefit  from the changes, then it is a fraud and a charade.”
Reacting to the willing of Ojukwu Transport Limited, Emeka explained that Bianca is currently in court with OTL where she used the names of her two sons to drag the company to court.
“The claim that my father transferred his trustee membership to Bianca is false. First of all, my father Ojukwu was not a trustee. His position in OTL is that of a director not trustee. The position of director cannot be transferred to anybody. Even if it is transferred to me it would not hold. There is a laid down law or procedure for one to become a director in the transport company.
“For you to be director in Ojukwu Transport you must have Ojukwu blood and not through marriage into Ojukwu family. You have to have at least 10 shares. And you have to be voted into directorship by the board of trustees and a woman cannot be a director. Also if you are a public servant you cannot be a director and even if Bianca is a director she has to resign because she is now a public servant by virtue of the fact that she is now an ambassador.
“There was a time my father has to resign as director and later he was reinstated as one when he stopped being a public servant .So there are many reasons why this claim is spurious.
“The person that is claiming that the directorship was bestowed on her is right now in court suing Ojukwu Transport in the name of her two sons. There is a lawsuit right now, and it is in the public domain, where she is using the names of her two sons to sue the company.”
Emeka also confirmed that the mysterious girl that benefited from the will is his father’s daughter, adding that his father Ojukwu had told him about the girl before now.
“My father had earlier told me about the girl in question and told me all that had happened before he died. So she is not a stranger and in the original will she was mentioned by my father.”
A night before the will was read, Ojukwu recalled that he was away to attend a funeral ceremony when his security guards at the gate phoned to report that the Anambra Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Mr Robert Okonkwo had driven into the compound and carted away Bianca’s property from  Ojukwu’s main house. This, he noted, was a confirmation that Bianca had a premonition that the will would be read the following day and that Ojukwu’s main house would be willed to him as the first son.

Louise Priddy has finally closed Bacchus Nite Club which she has been operating for over eleven years. Louise inherited the club from her father many years back and said part of the reason she closed it down was because of the effect her father's death has had on her and their entire family. Plus all the stress of running a club, customers debts etc.

Bacchus Nite Club, situated on Awolowo Rd, was officially closed yesterday Dec 1st. Her farewell party held there yesterday.

Sanusi Makes U-Turn; Now Calls for Sack of 50% Political Appointees

The governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi has lashed out on those calling for his sack over his purported statement that the federal government should reduce the work force in the country by 50%.

He said he was not talking about the sack of civil servants but a substantial reduction in the size of political appointees who, according to him, take 70 percent of government revenue leaving a mere 30 percent for about 160 million Nigerians.

Speaking to Chukwuma Onuekwusi of Channels TV in London at the end of the 13th session of the Honorary International Investors council meeting, Mallam Sanusi said those calling for his sack “are shying away from the reality of the time”.

Insisting that about 50% of political appointees in Nigeria must be sacked, Sanusi said “what Nigeria is practicing is an American system of government that is very expensive,” adding that we can't afford it.

Surprises As Ojukwu Disowns His First Son, Gives Second Son Only One Property

The content of the Will created surprises for family members when an ‘unknown’ name, Teny Harman, was mentioned as number one among the late Ikemba Nnewi’s children.

More shockers came as the name of Sylvester Ojukwu, his supposed first son, was conspicuously omitted from the list of children endorsed by Ojukwu himself. More so, Emeka Ojukwu Jnr. (his second son) only got a property in Nnewi as his entitlement.

Widow of the late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Bianca, was mostly favoured as the Will of the ex-Biafra leader was read in Enugu, on Friday.

The Will was read by the Chief Registrar, Enugu Judiciary and Probate Registrar, Mr. Dennis Ekoh.

Bianca, the late Igwe of Oraukwu, Emeka Ojukwu and James Chukwuneme are listed as trustees and executors of the Will, while the names of Ojukwu’s children were next.

Besides, the late Ojukwu stated that only those listed as his children in the Will, and no other person, should be regarded as his children.

Those listed as his children are Tenny Harman, Emeka Ojukwu, Mmegha, Okigbo, Ebele, Chineme, Afam and Nwachukwu.

Meanwhile, Bianca could not hide her surprise when the name of Tenny was earlier mentioned among Ojukwu’s children as she started whispering with family members who were in the registrar’s office with her. She later radiated with a smile when the Will awarded Ojukwu’s GRA, Enugu mansion, ‘Casabianca,’ in her favour.

Bianca also got two properties located at Plot 20, Jabi, Abuja, with Certificate of Occupancy number 4405, as well as another located at Kuje, Abuja.

The late Biafran warlord also willed to Bianca all personal effects, money and cars for her upkeep and that of her children.

He also allotted to her two hectares of land at Umuezeani Umudim Nnewi on the condition that she does not remarry.

His 'strange' daughter, Tenny, was allotted Jubilee Hotels in Kaduna State, but when the codicil was read, it was observed that the hotel had been sold, thus she would receive the proceed from the sale.

The deceased further willed a hectare of land each to all his daughters but directed that his Nnewi property is “to remain a binding legacy to us for generations to come.”

My Mother-In-Law Destroyed My First Marriage - Mercy Aigbe

Mercy Aigbe needs no formal introduction as one of the most-sought- after actresses in Nollywood. She’s one of the top rated actresses who has paid her dues in the industry. In this interview with Showtime Celebrity, Mercy opens up on many issues, including her marriage to her ex-husband, her recent marriage, career, challenges and others. Excerpt:

What’s been happening?

I have been busy working and some of my movies have been released in the market. I just completed my most recent movie titled, Suru Lere(Patience Has Gain). I also traveled to shoot the concluding part of my movie, Osas, and by December, we’re going to round everything up.......continue reading

You started as an actress and now, you’re a producer, how has it been?

It hasn’t been easy because it involves more responsibilities. As an established actress and now a producer, you want to give what people will see and respect. Producing movies that are not up to standard will affect the way people look at me. So, it’s double work because I also play lead roles in my movies.

How much do you spend producing a movie?

Like I said, as a producer, I love to give out my best on a project. But with the kind of environment we have here, one of my challenges is piracy. Sometimes, when you have a project and you’re to spend like N10m, you’ll always want to cut cost because you’re not sure pirates will allow you recoup your money. But at the same time, because of my status and the kind of person I am, I always want to do what I want to do.

You being a Benin woman, why did you choose to act in Yoruba movies?

I’ll say it’s providence because it’s not by choice. I didn’t know I would be more prominent in the Yoruba movie genre. But I’m a professional- I studied Theater Arts at the University of Lagos. So maybe this is where God wants me to be for now.

Actually, I started off acting in soaps. I did a couple of soaps before going into Yoruba movies. And it was after I featured in few Yoruba movies that I started getting more scripts from Yoruba movie producers. It’s not as if I don’t get called up by non-Yoruba movie producers and it’s not as if I don’t want to diversify to feature in English movies or even produce mine, but for now, I’m okay with where I am .

You’re so fluent in Yoruba. Did you grow up in the West?
Yes, I grew up in Lagos but I would say I learnt the language on the job because before I started acting in Yoruba movies, I wasn’t fluent in the language. My father was the type who didn’t want us to lose our root so, most of the times, we speak Benin and English at home. It was because we lived in Lagos that I started picking up a bit of Yoruba. When I started, my scripts were written in Yoruba and I would pronounce words just anyhow. But because I love my job, I had to learn and as I continued acting, I got better with it.

So you knew you were going to be an actress?

Yes. That was why I went to study Theater Arts. I first went to Polytechnic, Ibadan where I had my OND in Financial Studies and Instead of continuing with my HND, I went to the University of Lagos for my degree in Theater Arts.

So what happened after the degree?

It wasn’t easy because I had to battle my dad who never supported my decision to go into acting. He didn’t believe I could earn a living with it. So it was hell until he consoled himself, in Nigeria, you don’t necessarily have to work with the certificate you have.

How much were you paid when you just started?

We were not paid at all. When I started, it wasn’t easy finding people who believed in me and take the risk to feature me in their movies especially to play lead because most producers wouldn’t be sure if one is capable of playing a character for a long time even after auditioning. So when I get opportunities to express myself as an upcoming, I was grateful even when I didn’t get paid. I wasn’t paid in most of the movies, and if I got paid at all, it was peanut.

Like How much?

I had been on the set of a movie for three weeks and at the end, I was paid N2000. And I remember on my way back home, I was crying because before I came into the industry, I already had a car and I was okay. So it was like leaving a lucrative job for an unknown place where I wasn’t even sure I would be accepted. I think my passion for the job kept me on until things became better.

What determines the kind of script you accept?

The number one thing is the script- it has to be well dialogued and has to make sense. I love to play a character that someone can learn from. Then comes the director, the casts and crew which matters a lot because it’s one thing to have a good script and another to bring it to life.

You said you don’t belong to any caucus. But actresses like Funke Akindele, Eniola Badmus, Bimbo Thomas and others belong to one. Are you a loner?

I’m not a loner o. I didn’t just have to join any caucus because after the movie, Ara, everybody just started giving me scripts. So, there was no need for it. But maybe I should say that I belong to all caucus because I have a good working relationship with everybody, whether it’s the Odunfas, Akos and others. Yinka Quadri, Oga Bello are my fathers and I work with them a lot.

And you didn’t get harassed by producers?

I wouldn’t call it harassment. Yes, men make passes at me because I’m very beautiful. It happens everywhere. I’m an adult and if I wanted to date someone, I would have but I didn’t date anyone.

Why?

Because I just believe that relationships in such industry doesn’t work.

You don’t trust anybody?

Exactly. I just have that thing at the back of my mind that such relationship won’t last long.

Was that what determined you choice of a husband?

Probably, but the thing is that I knew I wasn’t going to date anybody in the industry. So, I wasn’t attracted to anyone and didn’t allow any feeling to develop inside me for anyone. When I’m on set, I just do my job. But I can’t say it influenced my choice of husband. Fine, my husband isn’t in the industry. I didn’t know I would get married to a hotelier and a car dealer. I didn’t have a particular picture in mind. I just met him, fell in love with him because he was very kind, matured and understanding.

One hopes he doesn’t get jealous whenever you go to location for weeks?

It’s a lot of hard work being a mother, wife and a professional and still be on top of my game. Sometimes, the whole thing just gets to me and I feel exhausted. But I have an understanding husband who loves my job and supports me. He knows I love my job, he knows I’m an independent woman and I love to work for my money. I love his money too o but there’s this pride that comes with me spending my money. So he supports me because he knows my job makes me happy and he doesn’t want to have an unhappy and unproductive wife at home.

Whenever I’m away on location, I make his food and keep in the freezer. I also have domestic staff who help me out . My mother also help me with the kids whenever I’m away.

Doesn’t he suspect you having an affair whenever you are away on set?

The reason he doesn’t doubt is because when we were dating, I didn’t give him any cause to doubt me. According to him, he has tested me and he trusts me.

So how do you cope being the second wife. Don’t you and the first wife have clashes?

Laughs. This question is very funny and I’m going to deal with this now. What happened is that when I met him, he was already separated from his first wife. Although, they were still married, but no longer together. She lives abroad with the children. So, they were already separated when we started dating.

They weren’t divorced?

They weren’t divorced as at the time when I met him but now, they’ve finalized their divorce and I’m the only wife. They were separated for like five years before I came into the picture and their divorce case was in court. They were divorced before we got married. A lot of people don’t know the real gist- now I’m not the second wife but the only wife.

So now you’re happy?

Yes because even when I started dating him, I just allowed people to say whatever they wanted to say. They were still in court then, I didn’t want to say anything and just kept quiet and the town went agog. They finalized their divorce before our wedding and even before I had my son.

You’re a very beautiful woman, how do you cope with male advances?

I get a lot of that because people tell me I don’t look my age. I get a lot of male advances and it makes me feel good because I get reassured of my beauty even after two kids. So I tease my husband about it. A times I even let him know whenever someone makes passes at me so he can know I’m still hot. But jokes apart, I’m a married woman and I don’t want anything that will stain my name. I love my home and I pray to remain married for the rest of my life. I always know how to draw the line.

So how does he handle it whenever you get advances from men?

He just squeezes his face and asks me if I don’t know that I’m old and I just tease him back that it’s only to him that I’m old, the other guys don’t know that and we just laugh it off. But I think he likes the fact that men make passes at me- I think you should ask him that. But to me, we just joke about it.

Aren’t you due for another baby because your boy is two years old now(laughs)

Yes, I want to have another one by the special grace of God.

So what are you waiting for?

It’s God that gives and I know he’ll do it very soon.

Does your ex husband still bother you?

No, he doesn’t

Did he let you be just like that?

Of course.

Has he moved on like you?

I don’t know anything about him.

Both of you don’t care?

Why would I care? I’m married now and I care only about my husband and my kids.

Are you not bothered about the negative gist in town concerning it?

I don’t have any business with him again. That’s my past. My husband and my children are my present and future.

Divorce cases are many now. How do you hope to remain married again?

It’s not me and I don’t have the power to keep my home. All I’m determined to do is my best in the relationship. What I’ve done as a woman is to take my marriage to God because the divorce cases are scary. It’s everywhere. Ladies of nowadays are independent and don’t care about marriage.

In the past, single mothers used to lie about their status but today, ladies flaunt it, the world is changing. I’m going to sound a bit spiritual here- the devil is against marriage because it was instituted by God. And anything that has been done by God, he wants to make sure he pulls it down.

Marriage is meant to be sacred but it is no longer like that anymore. A lot of things have changed, even men don’t care what broken home can do to their kids. I feel our spiritual leaders should address it and make people start thinking of the vision God had about marriage.

I’ve been a victim of divorce once and I know what my daughter went through because I had an issue from that marriage. I don’t want to see any of my children go through that again, and that’s why I’ve taken my marriage to God.

So what were those mistakes you made in the last one that you wouldn’t want to repeat in this one?

It’s not like I’m trying to sound holy but, I didn’t make any mistake. I just feel it was meant to be like that. I had a mother-in-law who didn’t like where I come from. She didn’t like the fact that her son didn’t marry a lady from their village. She made me go through hell. At a point when I couldn’t take it any more, I left the marriage.

So you wouldn’t blame those ladies who wish their mother-in-laws were dead before they got married?

I swear I wouldn’t blame them. If I think back to what I went through, I wouldn’t pray for anyone to go through such because I went through hell in the hands of that woman. And for me to have woken up one day and decided to leave, it wasn’t easy because I was young and tried my best to please her. But she wasn’t pleased. I went out of my way to learn their language, learn how to cook different dishes just to please her but she didn’t budge.

So what did your ex-husband do about it?

At first, he actually fought it but some women have a strong hold on their sons. In the end, he obeyed her. He didn’t like it that I was leaving but he couldn’t hold me back at the same time because he wanted to please his mum. We had fought the battle for a long time and it wasn’t as if it would come to an end, I had to leave.

Have you ever been broke in your entire adult life so far?

Of course, I had when I left my job for acting. But it wasn’t as if it was that bad because before I left my job, I already made a provision. I had a cosmetic and fashion accessories shop. I knew I would face financial challenges as an upcoming actress. It wasn’t that bad, I ‘ve just been blessed.

52 Sex Workers Rounded Up in Lagos

52 commercial sex workers have been arrested by the Lagos State Taskforce on Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit. The ladies, with ages ranging between 18 and 34, were raided at different locations in Isaac John and Toyin streets at Ikeja by policemen attached to the unit.
The exercise became necessary as a result of several complaints from the residents of the area about the activities of these nocturnal beings. The raid was said to have taken place between 10pm on Wednesday and 1am on Thursday.
Details of the raid were provided by a source within the taskforce: “We started moving round Toyin Street and later Isaac John Street to know where the prostitute usually stand to solicit for customers… as soon as we were satisfied, we started arresting them. The excercise did not last for more than three hours.”
Chairman of the Task Force, Superintendent Bayo Sulaiman, also confirmed the incident, saying, “There had been complaint by residents against a surge of commercial sex workers on Isaac John and Toyin streets… Isaac John Street is where we have the Government House and it is a criminal offence to solicit for sex by roadside.” He then warned that the task force would extend its raids to Lagos Island, Ikoyi and Victoria Island where he said commercial sex activities had been on the increase.
