DeVon Franklin reveals he was celibate for 10 years before marrying Meagan Good

Devon Franklin revealed in a recent interview with Global Grind that he was celibate for 10 years before marrying actress Meagan Good June this year.
She was celibate before we got together and I was celibate. You’re not going to believe me. Let me just put it this way, I've been celibate over ten years. Part of what I also do is preach and the thing that I couldn’t do, which was eating me apart…What was happening with me is that I would go and preach one thing but I was going and living another and I could not do it. I could not look at myself in the mirror. I was like, ‘No, I cannot live like this,’ so I had to stop and say, ‘You know what, until I get married, that’s off the table.
Devon is a pastor and Sony Pictures Executive. A man who practices what he preaches! Lucky Meagan!

Aluu 4 suspects remanded in custody;3 recount what transpired that day

The 13 suspects arrested in connection with the murder of four UNIPORT students have been charged before a Port Harcourt Magistrate on a five-count charge of conspiracy and murder and were yesterday remanded in prison till the case comes up again in December. The Nigeria Police Force has also dismissed the policeman who was part of the mob that killed the students. The policeman has been identified as Lucky Orji.

Now continue to read three suspects' account of what happened that day...

David Ugbaje's recount
“Around 7 am, I left my house. I dressed up to go to work. On my street, I saw a crowd of people with four unclad boys, who were being led into my compound, No. 9, Royal Villa in Omuokiri-Aluu. I said what was the problem and they said the boys were armed robbers. I said that is my compound, let us go and see the person, if he is their member or let them point the particular person, who is their member they were going to look for”.

“I opened the gate, they entered. A crowd of people that I could not control. They entered the compound. They pointed to the room of one of our co-tenants, whose name is Bright. They said one of the boys was staying with Bright. When they got there, Bright’s door was locked. Some people wanted to break the door. They started beating the boys. Very serious. Along the line, two policemen came around. One of the policemen was pleading. The other policeman joined in beating the boys and later said the crowd should hand over the boys to them, but the crowd said ‘no’. ‘We no go gree, we no go gree’.

“As the policemen were leaving, they said whatever this thing was going to bring, you would bear the result. Since I live in the yard, I said if I stayed there and the people were killed, automatically, the house would be in trouble. We are now in trouble. I brought out my belt; I started flogging people and asked them to leave the yard. I was beating the people (crowd) very seriously”.

“One Ikwerre man in the crowd asked why I was beating the crowd for the boys to be moved from our yard. I continued to beat the crowd to carry the boys to where they brought them from. I drove them out of our compound and gate. They injured me in my hand, when I was trying to open the gate”.

“I started flogging for them to leave. There is water in our (house’s) frontage. They went there and soaked the boys (four) inside the water. I discovered that one of the boys was my customer on campus, at the University of Port Harcourt, where I work. He was an Igbo student. I asked the boy: are you a student?
“If you watch the video, you will see me where I held a belt, asking the boy. The boy told me ‘no’, that he was not a student (of UNIPORT). Quite all right, I knew him very well. He once bought slippers from me and used to repair slippers from me. I am a shoemaker at UNIPORT”.

Maybe the boy was afraid to tell me he was a student. There was nothing I could do because of the crowd. If I talked more than that, they could join me with them.

“The beating was going on, here and there. At the end, they finally moved the boys out of my street. I then went out. My wife has just been delivered of a baby.”

On his role in the lynching of the four students, Ugbaje said: “I flogged the boys twice.”

Amadi's account of what happened
“I live at No. 9. Royal Villa in Omuokiri-Aluu. I am from Ikwerre. I work at UNIPORT. I am a printer. I do photocopying and binding. In the morning on that day, I dressed up, as usual, so that I could go to my work. When I came out at the junction, so that I could pick a bike, I saw a crowd of people, with four boys. They were unclad, with tyres on their necks”.

“I shifted a bit, but to verify what was happening, they told me the four boys came to rob. I asked where they were taking them to. They said they were taking them to No. 9, where I live”.

They said they mentioned one of our neighbours. That they came to look for him as well.
“I followed the crowd. Before I reached my estate, they had already reached the house with the four boys in front of my neighbour, Bright, from Ogoni. They said they were looking for one of the boys. Before they came, the back door was locked. Some of the people in the crowd said they were going to break the back door. Others said no, they should leave the door, since Bright was not around. At the end, they started beating the boys”.

“They started beating the boys. In the process of beating the boys, policemen came, but they said no, they were not going to leave the four boys. I called this my neighbour (David Chinasa Ugbaje), with other neighbours, that we were not going to allow that kind of thing to take place in our estate that we would be in trouble.

“This my neighbour (Ugbaje) collected his belt. I collected a small stick, and we started chasing people, flogging everybody, to take the boys out of our yard. We started pushing everybody out, including the four students. They left their tyres, I said they should take their tyres out of the yard and we locked our gate.
“I flogged everybody, including the four boys, for everybody to go out. I beat one of the four boys twice and the other one, I beat once.

Segun Lawal
“My name is Segun Lawal. I am from Osun State. I live in Omuokiri-Aluu. I was in the house, around 6:30 am to 7 am. I am a taxi driver. I saw a crowd and I parked my car outside. I saw a police vehicle coming and I followed the police. I saw four policemen. I saw the policemen enter the gate”.

“As I reached the gate, they were beating the boys. I had to raise my hands up, to defend the boys. If you watch the video, you will see it. I wore blue polo shirt. I started pleading for the crowd not to kill the four boys. They did not listen”.

“The Policemen left immediately. I had to leave. As I left, I went to GRA (Port Harcourt); one of my customers called that I should take him to Obudu Cattle Ranch (in Cross River State).
“I came back on Saturday night (October 6). I was in my house. Policemen came to arrest me. I never had this type of experience. I told the police that I was not around. That I traveled to Obudu. I did not beat the four boys.”

Charles Novia's critique of Tonto Dike's songs

Found the write up on the movie producer and record label owner's Facebook page. See it below...
Tonto's Terrible Tremolo by Charles Novia.
I have restrained myself for a couple of years from commenting on Tonto Dike's career after my last comments about her role in the soft porn movie she acted in two years back, were badly taken by her and she went on twitter to hurl infantile insults on my person with expletives and uncomplimentary remarks. My reaction to such then was just a dignified silence. After all, I had already spoken on her stunted talent as an up and coming actress and further comments on her incensed tweets were unnecessary.

All through the past few hours, the social media networks have been abuzz with the new singles of actress, Tonto Dike. She seems to have joined the actors of her ilk who have the moonlighting itch to delve into singing. While no one can stop such an ambition by those artistes, I do think those who surround such artistes are their worst enemies if they can't tell them the truth about leaving their sometimes doubtful day job. Well, I will! I listened to Miss Dike's two singles a few minutes ago and my initial speechlessness morphed to a nagging laughter and then subsided into a befuddled anguish. I'm a music label owner (November Records) and have produced and Executive Produced acts like Majek Fashek, Terry tha Rapman, Zubby Enebeli etc. I know much about music and the slant of commercial music. But after listening to Miss Dike's songs, I'm inclined to align with the majorly negative comments about them on cyberspace. Ah-ah! Whoever produced her knew she has a bad voice for singing and masked our listening torture with the Autotune effect. But even the Autotune rejected any attempt to make a bad voice worse and Miss Dike came out sounding like she was in mid-stream orgasm instead of singing! Her anguished tremolos would have been better reserved for a horror movie sound effect than an attempt at joining the revered profession of music. If Omotola got away with her last two terrible attempts at singing, it was because Omotola is a fantastic actress and her fans could forgive her musical failings after backtracking her body of work in Nollywood. With Tonto, I can't say much either for her acting depth. She's a one-dimensional actress in my opinion, who mistakes notoriety for fame. She needs more training in acting and this I say with all sense of professionalism as a movie Director. She might achieve greater heights in acting if she trains more. But she has no heights to achieve in singing. Only a downward plunge, the stuff bad endings in movies are made of.

The billionaire businessman and MD of Capital Oil and Gas Ltd is currently in a small cell at the Special Fraud Unit in Ikoyi. The committee discovered gross abuse by many marketers and reported the case to the police. His company leads the list of 25 companies indicted by the committee which discovered about N62 billion of subsidy fraud.

So he's now facing criminal investigation and prosecution for Capital Oil and Gas' involvement in fuel subsidy fraud. He was in court yesterday and the Special Fraud Unit of the Nigerian Police told the court that the money stolen by Mr Uba, could conveniently pay the monthly allocation of 11 states of the federation and asked the courts not to grant him bail, which they didn't. The case was adjourned to Monday October 22nd.

Meanwhile, his company has been blacklisted by banks on the recommendation of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Floods displace 1m people in North Central -- NEMA official

The floods that devastated most parts of the North-Central zone of Nigeria displaced more than one million people, Malam Mohammed Abdulsalami, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Zonal Coordinator, said.

Abdulsalami told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Jos on Wednesday that the agency had established 36 camps to accommodate such Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).

The camps are spread among the six states of the North Central,’’ he said, adding that the worst hit was Kogi, closely followed by Benue.

The two states had the worst cases because of their positioning along the River Niger and River Benue.

In fact, in the case of Kogi, many people have even fled to parts of Anambra but we have followed them and established camps there,’’ he said.

Abdulsalami said, however, that many IDPs were not in the camps, preferring to live with neighbours, relations, family friends and clergymen.

Many IDPs have complained of the inconvenience, regimented life and poor sanitation in the usually crowded camps and have opted to stay away.

For such people, usually referred to as Non-camped IDPs, who are even  more in number, we register them and give them some succour pending when we shall make a more permanent arrangement.

We usually ask them to stand in front of the houses into which they are accommodated where we get their pictures and the other details to help us to sort them out,’’ he said.

The official described the effect of the flood as ``very, very colossal’’.

He said 300 people were confirmed killed in the floods, while farmlands, houses, roads and bridges were destroyed, in addition to numerous livestock that were killed.

As I speak, many people are still missing and we still receive distress calls from communities in danger of being submerged,’’ he said.

Abdulsalami commended the respective state governments for working with NEMA to assist the affected persons, and particularly lauded prominent citizens of Benue, who directly assisted victims.

In Benue, prominent indigenes like Senate President David Mark, NAFDAC Director General Paul Orhii and Sen. Barnabas Gemade have offered lots of assistance to the victims by bringing all kinds of relief materials,’’ he said.

He said that to ensure that the relief materials reached victims, the distribution was being done directly unlike in the past when the items were routed through traditional rulers and community leaders.

We have often been inundated with complaints that some leaders were diverting the items.

We have, therefore, changed the mode of distribution to ensure that the relief materials were not cornered by people who did not suffer any damage,’’ he said.

Other states in the North Central zone affected by the floods are Plateau, Nasarawa,  Kwara, and Niger.

Kidnappers demand N30million ransom for the release of 2 children in calabar

It seems to be a season for kidnappers as they hold to ransom both the young and old in different states and sectors.
The recent one was the abduction of two school children along the Murtala Mohammed Highway in Calabar, Cross River State, yesterday morning. Eyewitness account claimed that the three gunmen were masked, ” it was only the driver that did not cover his face” The ugly incident happened as their mother, Mrs. Juliet Eko James was conveying them to school at about 7.30am on Tuesday morning.

In a telephone chat with the press, the father of the kidnapped children, Mr. Johnson Eko James, narrated how it all happened.

“My wife and our three children were driving out of our street into the highway and suddenly, some people in a Vento salon car accosted her, using their car to block my wife’s car.
They came out pointing a gun at my wife and asked for her mobile telephone.
When she handed over her phone, they then picked up our four-year-old daughter.
The elder brother, Emmanuel, 10 years old questioned why they were taking his sister away, they picked him up as well. It was at that point that our second child, a seven-year-old, ran out of the car heading back to the house.”

The civil servant who works with Cross River State civil service confirmed that he had already made a formal complaint to the Police command at the Federal Housing Estate Police division in Calabar.
However, the kidnappers called him later at noon, demanding for N30million ransom or risk t lose his two children.
Mr. James lamented that despite his wife’s appeals
to the dare-devil kidnappers to take their car, a Toyota Sienna, in place for their children, heartless armed men insisted and left with the children. When contacted to confirm the incident, the State’s Police spokesman, John Umoh said he was yet to get any report from the Divisional Police Officer of the police station.

How Godwin Okpara Serially Raped Me

Tina Okpara narrates her ordeal of sexual violation to NEHRU ODEH
Why did you decide to write this book?
For a long time, I refused to talk about my story. I refused all articles, interviews. One day, I told myself that if I refused testifying, other girls will continue to experience modern slavery. There will be other unhappy children, other “Tinas”. This is what gave me the courage.
Why did you title the book, My Life Has A Price?
It was proposed by Virginia Fuertes, the editor with whom I worked. I immediately found that corresponded to my story. My life has a price since Godwin Okpara gave money to my parents to buy me. But my life has also a price worth far more: the price of tears, fear and courage.
Considering what you went through in your adoptive parents’ home, do you blame your dad for letting you go through all those?
No. My father believed in doing what was best for me. He believed sincerely in giving me the opportunity to study in France and have a better future. The Okparas told him that I would go to school and when Linda Okpara made trips to Nigeria, she went to see my father and lied: “Oh yes, Tina works well in school, etc…”
Have you been able to get over the traumatic experience?
In part, yes. Because I was able to go back to school and get a job. Because I work with seniors and I feel useful. Because people have helped me: educators, my lawyer, friends. But I still have crying spells and nightmares. I wanted to write this book also to get it out of me. It came out, but it remains inside.
You had a secret notebook while going through the harrowing experiences. Did the raw material for the book come from the jottings you made?
Initially, I was not thinking about it. These notebooks were used to dump all my sorrow, all my hatred for Linda. It was my lifeline and my friend. But when I started writing the book, I took out the books. It was very hard to read everything.
You portrayed Mamie as cunning and subtly wicked. How were you able to cope with her?
At one point, I thought she might be my ally. But very quickly, I realised that she was spying on me, denouncing me and I learned to be wary of her. She did this because, as everyone in the house, she was afraid of Linda. And finally, she witnessed my tortures without saying anything.
What actually gave you the strength to survive the ordeal?
When I appeared on French television, a presenter first made a summary of the book and my life. Meanwhile, on a giant screen behind me, they ran images of Godwin Okpara as Paris Saint-Germain player. It was horrible. At the end, the presenter of the show turned to me and asked: “Tina, how did you survive that?” I was prepared to answer a lot of questions, but not that. There was a silence on the set of the show; I felt all members of the audience watching me. And a tear ran down my cheek. I was looking for the answer and it came. I said: ‘For the love of my father.’ It’s true. During all these years of suffering, I thought of him. I did not want to disappoint him. I remembered his kindness, his love. I also thought much about my mother, who was in heaven.
Did Godwin Okpara show any amorous interest in you before he actually raped you?
I do not know. In any case, he never tried to seduce me. He took what he wanted, suddenly, without love, without feeling, just for fun.
When did it occur to you that the Okparas didn’t have good plans for you?
I gradually realised when my school year was always delayed and at the same time, I had more work to do at home. And Linda was gradually changing her attitude towards me. At the beginning, it was ‘Tina, please, can you do that for me?’ Later, it became: ‘Tina, do this. Tina, why have you not done this yet?’ The day she spat it in my face that schooling was not for me because I was too stupid, I lost all hope.
You portray Linda as actually controlling Godwin in your book. Could you tell me how the couple met each other and got married?
I do not know how they met. Linda had a great influence on her husband. She was older, I think, and more authoritarian. He was afraid of her, I think.
Why do you think Godwin didn’t have the courage to challenge Linda over the way she was maltreating you?
On the football field, he was perhaps a courageous defender, but in life, he behaved like a coward. He was afraid of her. She dominated him psychologically. He was the child and she the mother. And I think he was not opposed to her because I was not important to him. I was something like a piece of furniture. You do not argue with your wife because she abused a table or chair.
In your book, you said Godwin gave your father some money. Did Godwin actually buy you? Or is the money a kind of price he paid for you?
I think the Okparas were malignant. They gave N30,000, the equivalent of 375 euros to my father, telling him that it was a gift. It was better hidden. In fact, they purchased me without my father’s knowledge. I believe that my father did not sell me .
The couple are still serving their jail terms. But you didn’t write about what happened to their children. Where are their children? Who is taking care of them?
After the arrest of Godwin and Linda, they were placed in foster homes. For them also, this story is a disaster. I often think about them because I loved them.
How long did it take you to write the book?
It took an entire year.
You wrote the book in collaboration with Cyril Guinet. Could you explain the nature of collaboration?
I did not know Cyril before writing this book. This is a journalist, who has always been interested in issues of child slavery around the world. For example, he went to Haiti to denounce ‘Restavec’, a traditional slavery of poor children. He knew my story by attending the trial of Okpara. As luck would have it, he contacted Maitre Peron, my lawyer, years after the trial. But the day before he called, I had just told my lawyer that I was considering writing my story. I told Cyril my story and he wrote, asking me questions along the way. We both worked several times a week. I cried a lot during these sessions and I gained weight. I even had to see a shrink not to sink. Then he sent me the chapters to re-read. In re-reading my story, I cried every time. But I was happy because the book faithfully captures my story.
What lessons have your experiences taught you?
Hope. This is the most important lesson. I also learned that I was stronger than I thought because I survived.
Where actually did you grow up in Lagos before you went to stay with your uncle?
I  grew up at Shomolu, Bariga, in Lagos.
What was the relationship between your dad and the Okparas?
My father knew Godwin Okpara thanks to football. Godwin, when he was young, had played in a company where my father worked.
Does your past experience affect the way you relate with people now?
I do not know. I cannot say how I would relate with people if my life had been different.
Are you in any relationship now? What plans do you have for the future?
Like all girls of my age, I dream of Prince Charming. I want to be in love, get married and have children. I always dream of having a large family: two boys and two girls.
Do you intend relocating to Nigeria very soon?
Maybe to see my family, I have returned several times since.
In your book, you gave the impression that your father was poisoned? Do you still believe that?
He died in a very mysterious way.
What native language did your parents speak. Where are you originally from in Nigeria?
At home we spoke Alago our native language and Yoruba. I come from Nassarawa State.
Considering what you went through, are you satisfied with the judgment?
At the trial, I said all I wanted was a halt to the torture. I wanted to go to school and have a normal life, not to be a slave. Nobody should be a slave in the 21st Century. I told the judges: “If people like Godwin Okpara, if they want to pay to see him play football, release him but withdraw me from them.” Years in prison, it is normal in terms of what they have done. But that won’t give me back my childhood and my innocence.
Why did you think the couple behaved the way they did to you?
You should ask them. But I think they behaved so partly because others had done so before them and others are still doing it. For a certain part of the population, exploiting children is not wrong.
It is a tradition; it has always been this way and they do not understand why it should stop. Unfortunately, Linda and Godwin Okpara are not isolated cases. And today as I am answering your questions, there are many other ‘Tinas’ who suffer. This must stop!

Nia Long is back on the acting scene after taking a short break as a new mommy. But you may be surprised to find her on the an interactive small screen, the kind attached to a keyboard and mouse. Nia stars along with Kristen Bell and Zachary Abel in a Target  three-part mini-series called, “Falling for You.” The 41-year-old actress plays the boss of Kristen Bell’s character in the Phil Abraham (Mad Men and The Sopranos) directed commercials. For shopaholics like us, the miniseries’ shoppable feature is a sweet treat. Murder of 4 UNIPORT Students: The True Story Behind Their Death

The brutal murder of the Four students of the University of Port Harcourt has become a major source of worry to many Nigerians who feel that human lives have no value as far as the country is concerned.

Since the incident, many people have advocated for the immediate arrest of those behind the heinous act and possibly charge them if found guilty. While some have continued to advocate for death sentence, others advocate for life imprisonment.

However, investigation reveals that none of the four murdered students was involved in robbery or any kind of pilfering.  An anonymous colleague of the late Llyod and Ugo whom he said were aspiring musicians and his colleagues.
It was gathered from the source that Ugo and Lloyd were cousins. Someone was indebted to Ugo around the community and had vowed not to pay. Ugo who was popularly known as Tipsy had gone to meet with a fearless University guy (name-withheld) to help them track the debtor who had been on the run. The guy who was feared by many in the school had accepted to accompany his friends to get the debtor tracked down and get his own percentage of the money. They were joined by their room mate, Chidiaka. On their way to the place, they met one of their friends, Tekena, who knew nothing about the plan, and he joined, just for the hype as it’s normal with young boys of juvenile age.
They were actually 5 that got to the debtor’s compound. Unknown to the other four, the “Confra” guy who was contracted to intimidate the debtor just to get the money paid went with a gun .When they got to the guy’s house around 12am, fight ensued, as the debtor confronted them. A next door neighbour, a woman started shouting on top of her voice, that they were thieves, attracting other bad boys around the areas, whom they said were mainly “vickins”, rival cult group of the one on contract. They swung into action by tipping the vigilantee who confronted the boys, referring to them as thieves.
At the process of beating the boys, and while they were trying to explain, the fifth ‘guy’,the cultist brought out his gun to scare the people, and he escaped, leaving the rest four at the mercy of the villagers.

The explanation they tried to give fell on the community’s deaf ears as the people insisted that they must be killed. Another close friend of Ugo and Lloyd had reacted by calling on the president to take action against those behind the murder of the four students. The young man who had pleaded that his identity be kept secret said: “Mr President those 4 boys who were killed at Aluu near Uniport were my young friends. I was their mentor. Two of them were promising rappers and singers. I am forwarding their work ironically titled “ain’t no love in the city”

Top Ten Reasons Black Guys Prefer White Girls

10. White girls can get their hair wet. It’s summer time. Who wants to be at the pool with a girl whose only concern is not getting her weave wet. White girls just jump in the pool without any care.
09. White girls don’t talk back. Put a little aggression in your voice and she will do whatever you say. Black girls always wanna fight. Always.
08. Its easier introducing them to your family/friends. Everyone, this is Amber is WAY easier on the ears than, Everyone, this is Shaniqua. Just saying.
07. White girls have WAY less restrictions in the bedroom than ’’’other races.’’’ You can basically do whatever, wherever with them. And they’ll smile through it all.
06. White girls aren’t looking to be in a rap video. Meaning when y’all go out, she’s not looking for you to buy out the bar’ and light the club up with sparklers. She doesn’t care about any of that sh*t. She just wants her drinks and music.

05. White girls have no problem spoiling their men with gifts. The LOVE that sh*t! It’s an ego boost for them. (See Kim Kardashians birthday present to Kanye? Ok then.)
04. White girls don’t give you as many headaches as other races. There’s no nagging, complaining, and other annoying ass behavior. No running through your phone and wanting to know who such and such’ is.
03. White girls cater to and love to take care of their men. Cooking? No problem. Cleaning? No problem. Anything else you want? No problem.
02. You ever receive head from a white girl? I rest my case.
Which all really sums up my number 1 reason black guys prefer white women:
01. White girls are just more FUN. There’s no other way to put it. If you just want to have fun without any of the negative sh*t, get you a white girl right about now.
